Anonymous 87-Year- Old Woman Knits Dozens of Hats For Those In Need

The free knitted hats waiting for owners.
An elderly woman in Massachusetts, in the United States,  has been making sure children stay warm in the bitterly cold weather that has recently hit the region, and many other parts of the country.

The 87-year-old woman, has knitted an incredible 75 warm winter hats for local children.

And as a result she has become something of a local celebrity, but, wishes to remain anonymous.

In an interview with Fox News, she said: “I like doing them. I think it’s fun. But I don't want any recognition for what I do. I just like to stay in the background,”

“It makes me feel good that I can do something for someone.”

She explained it takes her a full day to make just one hat; and that she has been hard at work for months before the cold weather hit.

Her daughter then hung all of the 75 hats, along a fence at Nelson Memorial Park, in Plymouth. And within a few days , only four of the hats were left. Her hopes were that they go to children who really need them, as freezing weather persists in the area.

She said: “Just these little free gifts of warmth, would mean so much to someone who doesn’t have anything."
She also donates her hats to homeless shelters and plans to do the same next year.

“If I ever see anybody in local Markets  or other places, wearing one of my hats, I’d be thrilled to pieces,” she added.

Is it any wonder this , male model looks a bit glum as he struts the catwalk. He looks far from happy about having to wear this strange attire.  My question is, simply, 'why'? As it is an American pattern, I’ve converted the original yarn type and needle sizes used, into the UK equivalent.  I've also altered some American terminology and added a few extra instructions where it may be unclear. Here’s how to make your Retro knitted slippers: Instructions are for Child's size, changes for Women's and Men's sizes are in brackets Wool/Yarn used:  Chunky Knit Size Needles: 8mm (or size to achieve gauge below) GAUGE: 3 sts = 1 inch   To begin: Cast on 25 (29-35) sts.
